The Steps

To obtain a CDL the following must be done (in this order).

  • Visit the DMV Nevada DMV Website and download the CDL Handbook – Read this book fully, the information in this will be tested later on in the computerized skills test.


  • Visit a DOT Exam Doctor, there are many medical centers that offer this service, typically the price is $90-$100 depending on the physician

Complete the required paperwork to apply for your CDL Permit (This is where you choose your Class A or B License)

Typically the DMV will let you take your Skills test after this point.  There are a few different skills tests so remember to memorize your handbook!

Providing you passed your test the DMV will issue a paper permit, usually after a few weeks they will also send your plastic card ID also.

  • Now this is the time you learn to drive a truck or bus or if you have already mastered the art you will then be ready for the skills/pratical test.

You will require a vehicle for this part as the DMV does not provide one!
